A little trivia

According to legend, the word ‘tutu’ actually comes from 19th-century French children’s slang ‘cucu’, meaning bottom! How cheeky (and adorable).

This iconic bell-shaped skirt silhouette pioneered with the first production of the classic ballet La Sylphide. Despite the decline in popularity of this performance, this design grasped the heart of ballerinas and the audience alike, and has continued to be emblematic of femininity and grace ever since.

The layers of tulle needed to make these dresses were made accessible by the Industrial Revolution’s technological development of bobbinet – a finely netted fabric, which is the historical precursor to our A Little Lacey materials.

Of course, while the tulle of the 1800s was starched stiff, our fabric is made super soft for young, sensitive skin. Our creations are light and airy, created to be fit for a princess.
